Oppo A83 has been launched in the Indian market as the first selfie smartphone from the company for 2018. In line with other competitors, the phone has been launched with a 5.7-inch HD+ FullView display and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The device also borrows the AI Beauty feature from Oppo F5 that was launched last year.
Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek 6763T chipset that has an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz which is paired with 3GB of RAM for multi-tasking. There is a 32GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card for which a dedicated slot has been provided along with 2 slots for nano sim cards. There is a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, both having f/2.2 aperture and integrated with the AI Beauty mode that was announced on Oppo F5 last year. AI mode can learn automatically once it has amassed enough imaging data and it can classify, recognize and beautify the portrait in three aspects: skin color and texture, gender, and age.
“Our focus has always been on bringing best photography and Selfie experience to the Indian consumers. We have received an immense response for our Selfie Expert A Series and F Series. With the A83 we wish to bring an affordable selfie camera with advance features such as the HD + Full Screen Display and AI Beauty Technology. The A83 truly represents our ambition to continue being the Selfie Expert and Leader in the market” said Will Yang, Brand Director, OPPO India
Another highlight of the device is the Face unlock feature which is very similar to the one on OnePlus 5T. There is no fingerprint sensor on the Oppo A83 device which might make the Face unlock feature to be used more than needed.
Oppo A83 runs on the ColorOs 3.2 which is based on Android 7.1 and comes with a lot of customization options. The phone has a 3180mAh battery that supports fast charging as well. The device will be on sale starting from Jan 20th across offline and online stores in Black and Gold color variants. It is priced at Rs.13,990 which makes it go against the devices like Mi A1 and Honor 7x that are having a good run in the Indian smartphone market right now.
