The Facebook messenger for Android has been updated with feature to support SMS. Users will now be able to send and receive SMS/MMS right from the messenger app once it has been set as the default app for SMS/MMS.
Once the feature is turned On, SMS conversations will appear in Purple and the normal Fb chats will continue to be in Blue color. SMS/MMS in Messenger supports text, video, images, audio, as well as emojis, stickers, and location sharing. The SMS conversations will not be uploaded to Facebook servers, and all the messages are (obviously) sent through the traditional SMS/MMS channels from your carrier.
To turn the feature On, user needs to go to Settings in the app, tap on SMS and then turn on “Default SMS App”.
