Acer Aspire 7 long term review

Consumers always find it very difficult when it comes to selecting a laptop that is both pocket-friendly and packing some good features. There are a few options in the market and Acer Aspire 7 is one of the best among them. Today we will be talking about our experience with the Aspire 7 which has been with us for the past few weeks.

Aspire 7

We have the Aspire 7 A715-75G model that comes with Intel Core i5-9300H, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650Ti, and Windows 10 Home. The company also offers the Aspire 7 with the latest-gen Intel and AMD Ryzen processors.

Design and Display:

The design of Aspire 7 is similar to that of an ultrabook even though it could be categorized as a gaming laptop too. It looks plain and generic, with a matte black color that doesn’t boast of any flashy RGB lighting. Though the chassis is made of plastic, the laptop does not feel cheap and has a good build quality. At around 2.15 Kg, the laptop is quite travel-friendly and portable. The design would not turn heads but gets the job done with a decent build quality at this price point.

Acer Aspire 7 gaming laptop features a 15.6-inch display has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It also comes with a matte finish that keeps reflections to a minimum. The screen has decent contrast and brightness levels for outdoor viewing. The refresh rate is however only 60Hz which could be a letdown for some gamers since 1650Ti is capable of driving some titles beyond 60FPS.

I/O and Connectivity:

On the right side, we have a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack, a USB 2.0 port, and the charging port, whereas on the left side there is an HDMI port, cable lock slot, Ethernet port, Type-C port, and 2 USB Type-A 3.2 ports. The Type-C USB port does not support DisplayPort over USB-C or Power Delivery 3.0 There is no card reader if you are looking to transfer your content quickly from other devices.

We get a backlit keyboard on the Acer Aspire 7 that also has an integrated NumPad. The flat, smooth buttons provide a short stroke and the key resistance is pleasing. The keyboard feels comfortable while typing and does not yield. All in all, Acer delivers a well-made keyboard suitable for everyday use. We have a multi-touch ClickPad which is large and smooth for usage.

Performance and Battery:

Acer Aspire 7 offers very good performance at this price point for daily usage. The model we have comes with an Intel Core i5 – 9300H quad-core processor. It operates at a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz and can go up to 4 GHz (four cores) or 4.1 GHz (one core). This is enough power for a regular user to work on any of the applications. The 8GB of RAM allows for multitasking without any issues. On the storage front, we have the 512GB NVMe SSD which offers a very good read/write performance. Having an NVMe SSD makes sure every task on this laptop is quicker compared to regular HDD storage.

Aspire 7 comes with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650Ti graphics card that enables high-end gaming as well. The 1650Ti is a mid-range card but we were able to play most of the graphics intensive games with medium to high settings in 1080p. The frames per second were decent enough for any normal gamer. If you are gamer, you dont have to worry about the performance because atleast 90% of the games that are available today can be played without any issues in FullHD without any issues on the Aspire 7. You can see a glimpse of Far Cry 4 being played on Aspire 7 below.

The laptop is silent when performing most of the tasks, but once there is a load or a graphic intensive game running, the fans start to make noise that is easily audible. This should not be a deal breakers since it is the same case in most of the laptops including the high-end ones. There is a 48Wh Li-ion battery in the Aspire 7 which provides around 8 hours of battery life easily in normal usage. This could reduce when gaming since or performing any intensive tasks.

Verdict:

Acer Aspire 7 is a great offering from the company, which is a sleek 15.6 inch multimedia all-rounder in it’s segment. The hardware is quite capable of handling daily usage and even heavy applications. The 1650Ti graphics card makes sure this can be used for playing AAA titles too without any issues. With great hardware and a very good battery life, the Acer Aspire 7 is an easy recommendation for anyone looking to buy budget friendly laptops for daily use that can also be used for gaming and multimedia.
