Le 1s review – Best budget phone?

Le 1s from LeEco (LeTv) was on a flash sale last week where Flipkart sold around 70,000 smartphones in just 2 seconds which was quite an impressive record for a new smartphone company in India. Le 1s is currently sold at an attractive price of Rs10,999 for which you get an all metal body smartphone with fingerprint sensor and 3GB RAM along with few other features that we will be reviewing.

Build and Display:

Le 1s has an all metal screwless body which is very solid and durable. There are two variants of the phone – Rose Gold and Silver. The phone measures 7.5mm thick and weighs about 169 grams. On the right side we have the volume rocker and the Power/Lock key where as the left side is plain with just the dual sim (4G + 4G) card tray.  At the bottom we have a speaker and at the top we have 3.5mm headphone socket and IR blaster that can be used to control devices like TV, cd players etc. On the front we have the 5.5inch FHD display protected with Gorilla Glass3, which produces vibrant and good colors above which there is the 5MP front camera along with other sensors. There is a 13MP camera at the back along with a mirror surfaced fingerprint sensor. The display has very good viewing angles and great outdoor visibility.

“Screwless design with an all metal body is the best feature of Le 1s which makes it look like a premium device”

Hardware and Performance:

Le 1s is powered by MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. Internal Storage is 32GB and is non-expandable. The performance of the phone is quite impressive given the price point. Everyday tasks like browsing, texting, watching videos and casual gaming are all very smooth and there is no lag or stutter which in part is because of the eUI OS by LeEco. Switching between the apps is also seamless thanks to the 3GB RAM provided. The Helio Mediatek processor has proven to be a top performer among the midrange phones and Le 1s does not disappoint when it comes to the performance.

The fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone is a very good addition given how fast and accurate it is at recognizing the patterns. The fingerprint scanner is mirror surfaced which makes it very smooth to feel and can be used for various functions like taking selfies and also unlocking the phone without having to use the Lock button and then enter a pass code or pattern.

“Helio X10 + 3GB RAM + eUI = Smooth performance”

Software:

Le 1s runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop customized with the eUI, LeEco’s own OS. eUI is very smooth and similar to MiUi when it comes to the layout. There is no app drawer which leaves all the apps to be displayed on home screen. There are some pretty customizations that are very helpful. The control center is a great feature that provides various settings and ability to switch between applications.

Camera:

Le 1s has a 13MP Samsung camera equipped at the back and a 5MP camera on the front for selfies. Both the cameras are very good when compared with other mobiles in the same price range. The focus is fast and the interface is simple. Outdoor pictures come out very well with natural colors whereas indoor and low light pictures could have been a little better as we notice considerable noise. Overall the cameras are very good for casual use.

Battery, Sound and Call Quality:

Le 1s packs a 3000mAh battery to provide the juice which is quite impressive. Mediatek X10 has proven to be a processor that draws more power but LeEco has made some tweaks to ensure the battery life is considerably good in Le 1s. With some gaming, texting and browsing, the Le 1s can be easily used for a day. The sound and call quality also does not disappoint. The speaker is loud and clear, the voice clarity on calls is good enough.

Conclusion:

Le 1s has been launched as a mid range offering from LeEco but it is more than that. Le 1s has a build comparable to a premium flagship device, eUI which looks so matured and butter smooth and finally the performance which is close to last year’s flagship devices. We have been happy for the most part of our time with Le 1s and would recommend it to users who need a very good phone at affordable price.
