This has been a great week for all the selfie lovers who witnessed Vivo launch V5 with a 20MP front camera and then OnePlus refresh it’s device with an upgraded 16MP front snapper. And today it is again Vivo with the new Vivo X9 and X9 Plus devices which feature a dual camera setup on the front for stunning selfies.
We have seen dual camera setups previously on Huawei, HTC and more recently on the iPhone 7 Plus too, but they were all on the back. Vivo X9 and X9 Plus feature a dual camera setup on the front which is quite unusual. There is a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor of size 1/2.8″ and an aperture of f/2.0, and a second 8MP snapper which is used for capturing depth information. We are not sure how the resulting pictures would be but these cameras do sound serious on paper at least.
Vivo X9 features a 5.5″ FHD Super AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 625 Octa-Core processor clocked at 2GHz paired with Adreno 506 GPU. The RAM is 4GB and we have options of 64GB or 128GB for internal storage. There is a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture which also has PDAF capability. A 3050mAh battery with fast charging powers the device running on Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android 6.0.
The X9 Plus has a slightly bigger 5.88 inch Super AMOLED screen with FHD resolution, more powerful Snapdragon 653 processor with Adreno 510 GPU and 6GB RAM. There is also a bigger battery of capacity 4000mAh that supports fast charging. The remaining features are exactly same as the smaller model X9.
There are two color variants – Gold and Rose Gold. Vivo X9 is available for pre-order in China starting today at a price of CNY 2798 (about $406) for a 64GB one and CNY 2998 (about $435) for the bigger 128GB. The pricing and availability details of X9 Plus would be disclosed on December 26.
